Overnight Rains and Early Afternoon Storm Forces Round #2 Cancellation at Pittsburgh

Shippenville, PA (June 2, 2022) – Heavy overnight rains combined with a strong storm that passed over the track just before 2:00pm ET doused any hopes of completing Round #2 of Western PA Speedweek at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Tonight’s event has been canceled and will not be made up.

The rains and overall wet weather have delayed what was a hopeful return of Western PA Speedweek to Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile for the first time since 2000. “There was a lot of excitement from racers, fans, sponsors, and PPMS staff building around this event,” said promoter Matt Miley. “The ancient Miley Motor Sports team was energized, ready for this to be a premier Thursday night Western PA Sprint Speedweek event. It’s extremely disappointing that Mother Nature has claimed both of the mid-week shows.” The half-mile speedway will return to action again on Saturday, June 18th with the Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive ‘410 Sprints’ once again in action along with other support divisions.

A much improved forecast appears set to welcome Western PA Speedweek for our weekend visits at Lernerville Speedway, Sharon Speedway, and Tri City Raceway Park. All three shows will pay $3,000 to-win, $300 to start. Additionally, the full Speedweek points fund is still in effect with the champion earning an impressive $3,000 for their efforts. The nightly Quick Time and Hard Charger awards have now both increased with the money dispersed across the completed events. The Hoosier Tire loyalty program giveaway and the nightly $50 Hard Luck award will continue the remaining three nights as well.
