Threat of Severe Weather Forces Cancellation of Round #1 at Mercer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shippenville, PA (June 1, 2022) – In a situation that has become all too familiar, Michaels Mercer Raceway and Western PA Speedweek officials have been forced to cancel tonight’s event at the 3/8-mile D-shaped oval. With the impending rain in the forecast along with the threat of severe weather, track officials have made the unfortunate decision with the best interests of the fans and racers in mind. The race will not be rescheduled.

We now turn our attention to tomorrow (Thursday, June 2nd) as Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway prepares for the new kick-off event of the 2022 Western PA Speedweek. The track known affectionately as “Dirt’s Monster Half Mile” will look to complete their 2nd ‘410 Sprint’ event in less than a week. George Hobaugh of Chicora, PA picked up the $2,000 victory last Saturday evening.

Pricing for tomorrow’s event that also includes RUSH Crate Late Models and Hobby Stocks is General Admission $20, Seniors $19, Youth (Ages 13-16) $15, Children (Ages 6-12) $5, Kids (5 year & under) FREE. Pit passes are $40. Gate and starting times are as follows.

4:00 Pit gates open
5:00 Grandstands open
6:00 Sprint car pill draw closes + driver’s meeting
6:30 Hot laps
7:30 Opening ceremonies

The weekend swing of Western PA Sprint Speedweek will commence on Friday, June 3rd at Lernerville Speedway followed by Sharon Speedway on Saturday, June 4th and Tri-City Raceway Park on Sunday, June 5th. All remaining events will feature the standard $3,000 to-win, $300 to start purse.

Following the rainout of Round #1, the nightly ‘Knox Bakery” Quick Time award and the ‘Knox Raceway’ Hard Charger award will both effectively increase.
