(Shippenville, PA)…In an all-too-familiar sight to western Pennsylvania race fans this year, showers and thunderstorms followed by cooler evening temperatures have forced the cancellation of Western PA Speedweek Night #1 at Michaels Mercer Raceway. The race will not be rescheduled. The bad luck streak continues for Mercer who not only has lost their speedweek race in all three attempts since the rebirth (’21, ’22, ’24), but is now 0/4 on their young season.
All eyes now turn towards tomorrow, Thursday, May 30th for Night #2 of Western PA Speedweek hosted by Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. In addition to the $3,500 to-win sprint car program, the touring UEMS (UMP) Modified series and Hobby Stocks will also be on the card. Pits open at 3:00pm with grandstands opening at 5:00pm. The sprint car driver’s meeting is scheduled for 6:15pm. Opening ceremonies at “Dirt’s Monster Half Mile” are slated for 7:30pm.
Despite losing the first of five shows to rain, the full Western PA Speedweek point fund remains in effect. Additionally, some contingencies will now increase due to being spread over one less race. Full money details are below:
